Hey,
Eventually I want to max out the performance of my laptop... It's the one in my sig...

So far, I know I can upgrade the RAM to 2GB SODIMM DDR400, and the hard drive to a high-capacity quiet laptop drive, and add a PCMCIA Sound Blaster Audigy 2.0 card...

Am I missing anything?

I'd really like to know if I can upgrade the CPU... The chipset on this motherboard is an SiS661FX, and it's running my Celeron M at a 400MHz bus, with socket 479M. If I could upgrade it, I'm guessing my best choice would be a slow verision of the Pentium M, I'm guessing Core Solo's are out of the question.

Anyone? Thanks for any help :)

I recommend Core 2 Duo.. Here are some...

The Ultimate would be...

Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 Merom 2.33GHz 4M sharing L2 Cache Socket M Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819111300

A Affordable one would be...

Intel Core Duo T2300 Yonah 1.667GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket M Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819111180

But a good Affordable one with high peformance would be...

Intel Core Duo T2500 Yonah 2.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket M Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819111178

The last one isnt a Core 2 Duo... Its a Core Duo... Its still really good but...

Just because it has the same socket as my current processor, doesn't mean it'll work.

I'm 99% certain that dual core processors are on the top of the "won't work" list...

Bumpp...

Anyone know of a S479 CPU that will work with the SiS661FX chipset? I'm thinking a Pentium M 1.8GHz, this is the fastest S479 CPU I've found with a 400MHz bus...

Also, what is a a good, fast, and reasonably quiet laptop hard drive?
