Building a computer (Need some quick help)

First of all I would like to know which is cheaper, building a computer or buying an already made-one? With about same speed/cards, etc..

What I want:

2GB RAM
3GHz+ CPU
250-300 GB Hard drive
256-512 MB Video card (A good video card which will work for all the new games and will last for some time, I'm not familiar with them so I'm not sure...)

If there are some info missing let me know...how much would cost to build such a comp and how much would be to buy an already made one both with a good processor and with about same qualities?

(No keyboard and all the rest, just the comp)

If you know how to do it, building your own PC is the way to go... You can have everything specified to your own needs, will end up with better quality parts than a prebuild, the upgradability will be better, you have the option of overclocking, as well as just being able to say you built it.

I wouldn't take the chance to build it by myself to not mess anything up... However I heard that by building it, you pay way less then if you buy the same comp in a shop. Building it is like getting it directly from the company which makes it cheaper, but not sure...Also, does anyone know how much it would cost approx?

i would reccomend building your computer(so will everybody else on theis forum). you would not just want high ghz on a cpu. you would want dual core and go for the core 2 duo's. get a

intel core 2 duo e6300=180$
2gb ram= around 200$
outpost .com has a 400gb hdd for=90$ which is cheaper than most 300gb's
video card=nvidia geforce 7950gt.

just a lil "edumacation" on processors, on intels p4, the ghz was high, but barley got any work done, while amd had lower ghz, and got the same if not more work done. now, the core 2 duo surpasses the amd line processors. eg: a 3.4ghz p4 would get the same work done as a 2.2ghz amd 3400+. notice that amd uses 3400 to compare itself to a 3.4 ghz p4? so basically:
best p4 ever < oced amd fx64 < C2D
and this is coming from an amd guy, so...yea

Dont get the 7950gt... The 7900 GTO... It is alot cheaper and also peforms better than the 7950 Gt... THe 7900 GTO is basicly a 7900GTX underclocked... SO if you overclock it you could get the same peformance as a 7900GTX.. And you will be saving $$$ while getting ALOT more power... And as for CPU the Intel Core 2 Duo is a very good CPU for the price...

Its only 1.86 Ghz but could easily beats a 3.4 ghz Pentium 4... And if its overclocked it could even beat a AMD 64 FX-62... Which is $1500 her in Australia... The E6300 is also a VERY good overclocker... You could easily get it to 3.0 Ghz with stock cooling...

And you will need to get a RAM upgrade as the Core 2 Duo's use DDR2... I reecommend DDR2 800/ Pc2 6400.. The a Mobo would be needed...

But i think there is no nid to have a dual core cuz it onil faster up the performace by 30% of the normal computer so i know.... But wit HT technology, it can double the processing speed and i think it also much more cheaper than a dual core processor....like a 3.4ghz processor with HT function it run likes 3.5 to 3.6 ghz
but dual core onil faster by 30% ... cuz now i am use a dual core com ad also a HT technology computer and i had compare them and found this problems....
