Partition & Formatting question

I have 3 hard drives C, D, & E

C = Boot
D
E = System

(Don't know how I set these settings!!)

I'm trying to reformat my C drive to clean it and start with a fresh copy of XP.

My problem is that when I go to delete the partition and reformat the C drive, the drive letters change!

My D drive is now my C drive.....
My E drive is now my D drive.....
and the drive I'm reformatting (that used to be my C drive) is now assigned the E letter.

HOW & WHY????

I want my drive letters to remain static! I don't want them to change!

How do I fix this????

You can change drive letters in Start --> Run --> diskmgmt.msc

Tried that before posting...

It will not allow me to change either the "Boot" or "System" drive letters

delete them with the xp cd then hit f3 twice to restart the booting process. this time it will see it as C
