driver extensions in widows 2000 and beyond

Hello

do all drivers in windos 2000 and beyone have .dll extensions? i read that drivers in windows 95 had vxd and .drv extensions.
 
nope...they have many variances.. .sys, .inf, .dll...I think the actual driver file itself is .sys, but the .inf is what points the os to the location of all these driver related files...sys, .dll etc..

ah i think it is probably .dll for a user mode driver and .sys for a kernel mode dll
