One possibility is that the card somehow has two separate interfaces. This may have something to do with the dual core rumors. IDK at this point. But within that theory it would be something like:

512MB RAM @ 256-bit + 128MB RAM @ 128-bit = GTX
512MB RAM @ 256-bit + 64MB RAM @ 64-bit = GT

I think the fact that it is two separate memory units is determined, how they interact and why I think is still speculation.
