After restarting my computer I was having a problem where I could not get into My Computer or access any folders on my desktop, recycling bin etc... I would double click and the folders would not open at all (however it worked in Safe mode)

I restarted my computer and from the F8 screen chose 'last successful boot'.

I can now get into my computer, however the probelm is I can see a partitioned drive in My computer and the status is telling me it's 53% full however I can not see any files or folders at all?

Any ideas on how to access this data again?

I have WIN XP PRO

Thanks

Alright, since Device Manager is recognizing it, i am assuming it is a SATA drive and you need to install the SATA drivers. Find your motherboard manufacturer's website and look around.

ok will have a look around... thanks for your help

could installing SATA drivers corrupt the drive further? Should I tryand recover what is there (or this wont help much as it is still there somewhere)??

thanks again

That particular drive is IDE. Does the drive you have have a big grey cable or a small, skinny cable?

The drivers shouldn't corrupt any data. Still a good idea to backup first.
