i am interested in a new HDD. I am looking for an 80 or 120 gig.
mabye
120gb
8mb cache
ATA 100 or 133
7200rpm

Either the

Western Digital Special Edition 120GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive, Model WD1200JB, 8 mb cache ATA 100

or

Maxtor 120GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive, Model 6Y120P0, 8mb cache

I always go with maxtor. As an example, my granparents HP has a WD hard drive. Its failed on them twice and had to have it replaced. If it fails again, which is a matter of time, they will be going with my advice and getting a maxtor hard drive.

Its in my experience that WD hard drives dont last as long as a maxtor drive.

So if your asking which one to get, just based on brand seeming how their the same, I would get the maxtor...
 
go with the next maxtor model up from that, the 160GB 8MB cache....its probably model number 6Y160P0 or something like that. it doesn't cost much more than the 120GB model. ditch the western digi IDE disks, they are pretty slow but quieter than the maxtors.
 
I have had a maxtor 30 gig hdd for like 5 years and its still going, maxtor is definately a great company. I would agree with ekaesine in getting the 160 gig, its not much more for 25% more space.
