I was thinking of ways to clear out some more space in my case without doing anything really drastic...and then I had an idea. Suppose I was to put the PSU in an external enclosure, probably made of wood (my PSU doesn't get hot at all). I don't foresee any problems but I thought I would ask here before going ahead with it.

You could do that, but give it some ventilation because it WILL overheat and the wood might catch fire. I don't know how practical this idea is considering you'll have a big box near your PC with the psu in it. o.0 is right.

what would you possibly need just a couple inches of extra space for?
and why would you want to lug around a big boxy psu outside of the case, get the mozart tx or w/e, you WILL NOT run out of room.......
