can i get the best bang for my buck with the core 2 duo e6300?
and can the e6300 overclock to about 2.4ghz? i will purchase a core 2 duo (not sure which one) around christmas. so i can wait for some price drops maybe......

I always hear they overclock like monsters so I'm pretty sure you can get it past 2.4ghz even.

You can hit right around 2.4ghz with DDR2-667 RAM and if you get DDR2-800, you'll easily hit 2.4ghz and be able to get it up to around 2.8ghz just to get your RAM up to what it should be doing. It's an awesome CPU, especially for the price!

If you know how. AYou can get it to 3.5ghz stable. It still requires a good hsf but it shows how wicked this cpu actually is.

My e6300 and DS3 mobo just arrrived today!! :D gonna set it up tonight!!

got DDR2 800, so gonna try for that 3ghz mark!!;)

So if I buy an E6300 but only get 667Mhz DDR2, it will limit my capacity to overclock the CPU? I just got an incredible price on Corsair XMS 667MHz memory =)

Yeah, the price has gone up about $100 in the last 2 months. In the crosshair DDR2-800. I once saw it $179.00. That inclued a rebate. I wish it will go back down.

I can get a Corsair XMS2 1024MB (512MB X 2) kit of DDR2 675Mhz 4-4-4-12 memory for US$99.50!! For comparison, the DDR2 800Mhz 5-5-5-15 kit costs $174.80.

As you can see, I can save a lot by buying 675Mhz memory. My question still remains: will this slower memory hinder my capacity to overclock the E6300? It seems an overclock to 2.6Ghz is enough to outperform most pre-Conroe CPUs.
