I am building a Windows Media PC and was wondering if it is a good idea to put the OS on a separate physical drive (like a smaller physically separate hard drive), or create a partition on the hard drive (I am currently just planning on one 400 GB hard drive). Or just leave everything on the single C drive??

Interested in learning basic pros and cons here. thanks!!

What I do, is partition a small portion of the hard drive just for Windows. Then I install everything else on the other, bigger partition.

Does partitioning the drive and isolating windows os do anything for the system other than just provide organization? Any performance issue or crash probability differences? Lastly, what size do you recommend for the OS partition?

thanks for the comments

I have a 10gb partition for the OS.

If you partition it, and windows gets any problems you can just format that partition instead of wiping out the whole drive.

If you have another drive, there should be an improvement like in load times for games, etc. because it doesn't have to manage the OS, and load the game the same time.

There shouldn't be any difference in crashes.
