I have intel 845gebv2 board
running win Xp sp2

My PC is about 2.5 years old but this problem has been coming up recently.

I have a Night time net connection so I connect to the net only at night.
sometimes my internet connection just disconnects and the sound also goes out at the same time.
when I try to open the volume control a message window appears
"There are no active mixer devices available.
To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel
click Printers and other Hardware (sic) and the click Add Hardware".

The same appears when i try to play mp3 in winamp
though the sound is not completely out as I can hear the windows error
sound when the message window appears.

then I have to restart the PC to get the things right.

After the net is connected,
this problem does not appear at any specific time,
nor does it appear everytime I am connected to the net.

I have tried updating the sound drivers but it
didn't help

During the rest of the day when I am not connected to the net,
I never face any problem whatsoever
with the sound or any other component.

Please help.

what items do you have under your internet adapter (right click the adapter and click properties and there will be a list)

Do you have all current Windows updates? There is a bug that is out there that causes this very sort of thing. Microsoft has a fix for it. It isn't harmful, just annoying.
