something wierd happens

I used "Recover My Files" to recover my college entrace essay that got deleted when I restored my computer. However when i open the word document the essay does not show, instead there are about 20 pages that contain the following....repeated over and over

I need to finish my essay before the deadline and do not want to do a sloppy job retypeing it, is there any way to ....decode? this document to get this back in the way it was. i dont know y this happened with all the office documents, my mp3's and other things got recovered normally
 
no, i had no other copies. and i do have an Western Digital external hdd but this is a brand new computer and i didnt think the hdd would crash. I was soo close to being done, just one more paragraph would have made it perfect and i could have submitted it, i was so proud of myself, best **** essay i've ever written. well i guess i should start over while the stuff i had on the lost one are still in mind...
 
Unfortuantely colleges and universitys take a pretty dim view of pupils losing data. I know of plenty of students who have been automatically failed at the merest hint of the word "deleted"... Without explanation
