Heres what I want to do:

I want to install Windows XP, but disable everything except on program. When the computer starts up, all I want to happen is have the program, my network card, and any critical system processes start up. I don't want windows update, the task bar, desktop, etc. Is there an easy way I can do this?

Go to---> start--->run type msconfig choose selective startup and begin choosing which prgrams you want not to start up. becareful that you don't mess with windows xp boot up files in msconfig if you do that could cause a problem that your not looking for.

also if you want the classic start button and taskbar change that within the display settings in windows xp or windows server 2003.

Careful with the services, go to run type services.msc

I think there's a website that tells you which services does what and what you don't need..
