portable hard drives

hi guys, i have just purchased a hard drive caddy,its for a 3.5'' ide hdd and i have put my spare 80gb samsung hdd into it.i have plugged in the mains supply and connected the usb cable. the light on the front lights up and the pc picks up the drive but it says it is installed but might not work properly. it does not appear in my computer at all. i have the hdd set to slave inside the caddy. do i have to change this setting? please help.

keep it on master, as its not sharing IDE channel, so should wok with both slave and master setting.

anyway, the problem lies with your Caddy's drivers, they might havent been installed correctly, try changing the USB ports.
