why are intel chips still hotter

First off, this is just what I'm hearing, as always with the internet, it may be idiots talking. It used to be intel chips were hotter because they operate at higher frequencies and sometimes eat up more voltage.

Now with conroe, stock operating frequencies are in the same ball park and voltage should be lower, SO why in the heck are so many people reporting it to be hot??? Or at least hotter in proportion.

It's hot because everyone is OC'ing it like a GHz over stock speeds lol.

It's actually cooler because of the smaller transistors.

i am not sure about Conroe and Arndale cores, but previous ones were hotter as when Intel switched to 90nm wafer, and problem of current leakage from transistors came handy, AMD had taken this step afterwards, plus they took the SOI from IBM, so there wasnt any space left for mistakes.

but I am sure Intel wont be having any trouble now.

its allendale not arndale and the chips run WAY cooler. my e6300 @ 1.86 runs idle around 25C and full around 32C thats lower than AMD

Hmm... E6600 @ 3.4ghz = ~40C idle, ~48C load with AS5'd Zalman CNPS9500

You can overclock to a 4ghz (e6600) with a great heatsink.

Actually AMD were in general the hotter chips. But then Prescott 90nm cores suffered voltage leaks thus making them run hot.
