Realtek onboard audio

No sound since reinstallation of XP Media centre 2004. When examining the S & A properties in control panel, the Realtec HD audio is listed as working properly. However, can anyone explain the rather cryptic message I also found here "driver is enabled but not started" ? Internal Windows beeps sound ok.

I've done most of the standard things, checking connections, that onboard is enabled in the bios, updated the drivers from both the Realtec and Intel mobo site, visited lots of forums, seen similar cries for help but no solutions. Will this forum be different ?

Check your System group in Device Manager and see if you can find the entry called "Plug and Play Software Enumerator."

Thanks for the response. It is present and its status is that it is working. And from here....?
