24pin PSU with 20 pin mobo

will this work? i did this with an old mac and i seem to remember it working fine, just with 4 pins hanging off the end of the mobo connector. i just want to check if it would damage anything.

the only thing is that the 24pin connector does not have the white wire that is uaually in pin 18?? and i believe it is -5VDC. is this needed? would it run OK?

surely it will work without hassle,, is the 24-pin stack is seperated, then keep the extra pins tiedup with the cable tie.

it will run fine... they made it backwards compatible that way you can power both older and newer boards with the same psu... i believe that most new P4 and Pentium D boards use the 24-pin now but the extra 4 pins either hang off or you can detach them and tie them with the rest of your cable.
