How does imaging work?

You can create an image of anything in a program like Nero and burn it onto a CD.... right. It will save as an .iso file or something but then how do you open it.
Also with imaging does this mean u can make an image of program folder and then say put it on another hdd and it works without stuffing all the registry and shit.

Fanx ;)

usually an image is a clone of a hard disk or CD or DVD saved to a file. you cannot just copy the window's programs folder to another computer and have all the programs be installed like magic. windows does not work like that.

if 2 computers have identical motherboards (for winXP) you should be able to use Norton ghost to clone the partition to the 2nd machine and THAN the programs would be installed......like magic
