Alright, I am looking to buy a new PCI-Express graphics card and I noticed that the GT vs GS versions of the same card (Nvidia) the GS is about $50-75 cheaper. I also heard there isn't much performace difference between the GS and the GT is this correct?

usualy the gt is alot beter then the gs altho it depends on the gpu core like the 6800 gs is the best performing card in its series as the 7800gs is the best of its sereis teh gtx is best of teh 7900 because of ram size altho the 7900 gt has faster ram so theer isnt much of a performence boost most have 7900gt for sli as they are 100 cheaper the the gtx and are single slot no duel so theer great for sli just look at the specs ul notice diferences between each core on every lvl of vga so a gs on in oen sereis may be junk while in the other may be the best but right now the gtx and gt are alot beter depending on what card

Well someone explain to me..
I was looking at another post and it talks about Ncix.com and I was shopping at canadacomputers.com.
Ncix is offering this at $202
EVGA E-GEFORCE 7600 GT KO 580MHZ 256MB 128BIT 1.5GHZ GDDR3 Dual DVI-I HDTV Out Video Card SLI Ready
AND
canadacomputers is offering this
eVGA e-GeForce 7900GT CO(500MHz) 256MB DDR3 128-Bit (1500MHz) SLI Ready Dual DVI-I HDTV PCI Exress Graphics Card
At $400
They are basicaly the same (80 MHZ more) and Ncix is offering it at $200 less canadian..

The 7600 GT is waaaaaaaaaay inferior to the 7900 GT. Your question is like asking why a Pentium 4 processor is cheaper than the Extreme X6800 Conroe...

Aha yeah sorry about that guys.
My brother showed it to me and I thought it read them both as 7600's.
But my question.
should there be a big performance boost from my Asus Extreme N6800GT 256 MB's to
EVGA E-GEFORCE 7600 GT KO 580MHZ 256MB 128BIT 1.5GHZ GDDR3.
I find that its is a bit sluggish in Company of heroes beta (COH) and a few stutters in BF2.
Also is my AMD64 3700 going to bottleneck the graphics card or should it be fine?

No it will not bottleneck the 7600gt

I'm not sure you will see much of an increase in performance from the 6800GT, as the 6800GT is the top of the 6 series line, while the 7600 is a mid-range card.

If it is an option, I would try to find a secondhand 7800GT (via eBay or something). I've seen them go for around $200, and it is far superior to both 7600 and 6800.

In response to the GS and GT query, the GS is usually a less powerful version of the GT.
For nVidia it goes GX2 > GTX > GT > GS > XT > LE/TC

Yes I found a used 7800GT for $200 thanks for the advice!
I just have to find out how much it will cost from the states to canada using USPS shipping.

here's a link that might help you...and yes the 7600GT is better...(it's got a whole new line of technology so it'll obviously be better.) you shouldn't have any problem using a 7600GT w/ BF2 even @ mid-high settings.

but that 7800 isn't a bad deal either.

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=385&card2=313

here's the data from it:

7800GT
3dmark06: 3400
3dmark05: 6556

7600GT
3dmark06: 3055
3dmark05: 5760

6800GT:
3dmark06:
3dmark05:

6800XT:
3dmark05: 4987

the 6800Gt isn't in 3dmark06 but it wouldn't keep up so well cuz '06 uses '06 technology in it so the 7600 and 7800 will pull ahead in it.

download 3dmark and that'd give you a decent idea of what the upgrade will give you.
