My PC has decided to give up on me and as I have had it a couple of years now I haven't really been following the latest technology developments.

My current CPU is an Intel 3.4GHz (Skt. 775). Could someone ploease advise me as to what an equivalent CPU now would be - I was thinking in terms of the AMD 64bit and Intel Duo Processor.

Thanks for your help in advance and I hope I posted this in the right forum:confused:

Well right now the best thing to buy is a Intel Core 2 Duo system with ddr2 ram...affordable and pawns everything else out there...budget?

my mobo and processor was only $250.00can,

Its a sweet mobo too, u should look it up and check it out

This might be what you're looking for:

Seems like a good deal to me. The socket 939 3500+ Venice core CPUs were going for over $200 last time I checked, now you can get a socket AM2 3500+Orleans (similar to Venice but better) for less than 100 bucks! :)

Its only $91 cause these:

are only $191 and completely pawn the 3500 single core...

IMO it is wasteful not to buy a system with at least a e6300 in it right now..

...unless of course you have a tight budget and dont mind inhibiting future upgrades...

Well if he has the budget for teh e6300 than he could get that. He did not post a budget and if all he needs is an equivalent to a 3.4GHz P4 then he need not spend more than $91...

I can't see how buying an AM2 system would inhibit future upgrades...

Yes the new Intel CPUs are are an excellent value and like I said before, if you have the money, get one.
