Have somebody make a computer for you. You get a lot better quality for your money. I make computers, as do many other here. I'd like to do a sales pitch right now but there's probably a rule against that.

Yeah, i build too. Dan's option is definalty the best. Most brands overcharge for inexpensive parts, and add on even more on to the price for software that you will never use. So just find someone that builds computers and tell them what you want and theyll give you a price, and it will be far less than buying streight out.

Good build, except I would go for the e6300 core 2 duo and spend that little bit extra on a graphics card with a bit more oomph.

Im really not gonna be playing any games but i will have a lot of programs/music on there and the faster my computer the better.... but that did give me a general idea. Thanks

Don't be scared man, I'll let you (and the rest of y'all) in on a little secret, this build http://www.techist.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=120571 is my FIRST ever build. I've done stuff before like swap out mobo's and components out of one case and into another, and replaced CDroms, HDD, pus's etc, but never a complete build. As long as you know that your components will work with each other, then putting it together should be no (maybe some snags along the way) problem.

I have noticed that his aim is not on gaming, so faster cpu will be a good choice. 7600GT is enough to handle even directx game programming.
