I started up my computer today and got the message:

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."

I booted from Windows CD and selected repair, which brings up a console type thing which I have no clue how to use. Any help please?

what you want to do is go past the first screen that says repair. when it find "other versions of windows" it will give the option to repair again...do it now and it will replace all of the system files and you will not lose any data
