Another thing:

Get an extra 1GB or 512MB stick of RAM for your setup. More memory is the cheapest performance upgrade.

Hard drive should be okay, but if you need another one, go ahead, but i don't recommend it.


I recommend buying these for Photoshop work:

Memory: Super Talent 1GB DDR 400 SDRAM = $91

HD: WD Caviar SE 250GB IDE = $69

Total now is roughly $600, $80 less if you can use an old copy of Windows XP.

The computer should be a very good speed for photo editing, and if he wants to edit videos with Adobe Premiere, tell him to add another 512MB memory, and it'll be ready.

Yeah really you can build a pretty solid gaming rig for about 800 dollars id strongly recommend you go with the new am2 with ddr2 800 ram and another question to consider are you including a monitor if so LCD or CRT

He didn't mention gaming, so I don't think he needs DDR2/800

He didn't say he needed any gaming, and Celeron's are made for office work.

they are designed to be nothing other than a cheaper alternative to the Pentium 4. Intel did not step back and contemplate optimising it for a purpose, they just sliced and diced the Pentium 4 plain and simple. i think a Pentium 4 may be a better choice in these circumstances. it should fit into that budget and the general multitasking ability of a P4 with HT could do the world of good.
