My younger bro got a computer (HP Pavilion 505N, WinXP Home, 256 MB Ram) from a friend and wants me to upgrade the memory if possible. Can I get another 256 card and add it and where's a good place to purchase? Thanks in advance!

Greetings,

You should be able to add more RAM. If for some readon you only have 2 DIMM slots and they are occupied by 2 x 128MB sticks you will have to replace one or both.

Make sure that you get the appropriate speed. PC3200 (DDR400) is most common today. Kingston, Corsair, OCZ and Patriot are all reputable manufacturers with Value RAM series.

You can purchase them online at:

Newegg
Tiger Direct
Zip Zoom fly

Or at a local retailer, though online would probably save some cash.

That motherboard has two slots with a max capacity of 512MB each.
It will support DDR PC3200 • CL=3 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR400 • 2.6V • 64Meg x 64, and DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 64Meg x 64.

Not sure what this is, could you clarify:

It will support DDR PC3200 • CL=3 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR400 • 2.6V • 64Meg x 64, and DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 64Meg x 64.

Is DDR3200 a specific stick or something? Thanks again.

PC3200 and PC2700 are the speeds of the modules.

DDR SDRAM is double-data-rate synchronous dynamic random access memory.

CL is CAS Latency

Google is your friend.
