well.. this will be my first build the budget is 300 to 800 but i told my uncle (buidling it for a wedding gift) i should be able to build a solid rig for 650..... this is no extreme rig. just a rig for school work and average computer work. I wanna kno what processor is the newest ? is it the celron d or pIIII? thnks all help is aprrecaited

First off, adjust your sig as to not break any rules. The max size is 468x120.

Second, the newer CPUs that are out now are AMD's socket AM2 or Intel's socket T (775).

For a budget machine, I would recommend going with a cheap AM2 setup. You will get more for your money with a cheap AM2 setup vs a cheap Intel. And I can assure you that my comments are 100% fanboyism free:D

Yeah really you can build a pretty solid gaming rig for about 800 dollars id strongly recommend you go with the new am2 with ddr2 800 ram and another question to consider are you including a monitor if so LCD or CRT

The newest processor from Intel is the Core 2 Duo. Celeron D and Pentium 4 are pretty old, they started about 3 years ago. From what you said in the description, you would probably benefit from a Celeron D, because they are build for web surfing, making Word documents, and medium office work with ease. Onto your PC, here is what you'll need, all the parts are from Newegg.com:

That system above should be fine for office work.

Total Price:$459.92

I see nothing wrong with talldude123's build for office work. It's faster than what I use for AutoCAD at work.

thanks guys yes this rig is for non gaming .. no games will hit this rig... now another question this computer will have to be able to run photoshop.... will it run it at decent speeds with talldudes setup? will that power supply be good enogh? i mean only 15 dollars ?

srry if im breaking any rules but i cant change my sig size till tomorrow... yeah i liek that setup .... i might change it to a gig of mem and a bigger hdd you know so they wont have to worry bought anything.....that should also help for vista readyness correct? man... beging away from computers for a few months really makes you feel dumb......:D

For Photoshop, the Celeron would work fine. I run Photoshop on my current setup (Celeron D 2.6), it takes about 30 seconds to load, but once it's going, it's very strong and fast. On that model, though, it would be much faster, with the extra 600Mhz under it's belt

Another thing with a Pentium 4 or D, they overheat quite a bit, and run pricey depending on the model. For office-type work, photo-editing, and light gaming, a Celeron is the way to go :D
