Very slow XP Boot

Hi All-

HP Pavillion Cerlon 900/256 Mb RAM/ XP Home (upgrade)-

This machine could not run IE- I ran Spybot and Adaware. It now will run IE, but it takes about 5 minuted to boot. It hangs for approx. 2 minutes after the wallpaper appears. When the HD finally kicks in, it chugs away for a ridiculously long time before you can finally do anything.

Go to http://computercops.biz/downloads-cat-14.html , and download the latest version of CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom, the creator of Hijack This.
Run it, press 'Fix', and allow it to fix all it finds.
And remember to click "Fix" (Not "Scan only")

Thanks. I ran CWShredder and I think it helped. The initial hang is a little shorter, the shortcuts appear a little sooner. But the HD still cranks away for at least a minute and a half. after that. The whole process takes about 4 minutes! Any other ideas??

start-run-msconfig
uncheck these

mosearch.exe



run hjt put a check next to these

Sorry about the stupid question...

OK, I ran msconfig. There was no "mosearch.exe" found, but I unchecked the other 2. BTW, I must leave it in "selective starup" mode, correct?

I ran hjt. It seemed that MjWBE and appe were already gone. I checked mosearch line and hit "fix".

I rebooted into safe mode and deleted appe and MjWBE from the windows\temp folder.

It boots faster now, especially the initial "hang time". The excessive HD activity at the end is still just as bad- it goes on and on for about 1 1/2 minutes.
