For a CPU i'd go with C2D, e6600 at the least.

You don't need to spend the $$$$ to get it. It's overkill. Anyone using AA/ANIS/Higher than 10x7 Res in games will be bottlenecked by the video card! The excess clockspeed is a waste, unless youve got a 7950 or sli'd 7900gtx or some crap. The e6300 kicks ***. when OC'd its even overkill.

Go with wut you want, C2D are amazin chips and they OC like crazy. If you have the money, why not get a e6600.

A 7950GX2 will easily bottleneck a Core 2 Duo. Maybe not a stock one, but an overclocked C2D will easily be bottlenecked by a 7950GX2. Not that it matters, and not that you can do anything about it, so just forget about bottlenecks and get the best videocard you can afford.

Thanks guys, ive decided to get a C2D instead of the AM2, may as well get the E6600 :p . Was going to get the BFG version of the 7950GX2, and that clear Raptor X HDD - but it started getting expensive lol.

Since im in Australia and not America, I used staticice ( www.staticice.com.au ) to find the cheapest parts, even tho im limited to VIC. This is what its going to cost me, just so you all know :)

E6600 - $500
Geforce Gigabyte 7950GX2 - $845
DDR2 800 XMS2 Corsair - $370
Maxtor 300GB 18mb Sata II - $140
ASUS P5B Socket T - $275
ModWare Flexiglow Acryilic Case - $180
Thermal take 750W - $215

Which gives me a total of $2525

Why so extreme on the power supply? From what I've heard, Thermaltakes aren't that good either.

Ive never realised the make affected PSU's much, i might look into an Antec - noticed alot of people get Antec power supplys, and for getting a 750w psu, well i thought why not :) - specially when it aint so much extra cash to bump up the power.

Personally, I would go with the X1950XTX. It's a very solid performer and is better then the 7900GTX in almost every category. They are very overclockable and have very fast GDDR4 @ stock 2000Mhz.

The price/performance makes these cards my current choice if you just have to have a videocard right now. x1950xtx is arond $449.00 and the 7950 is closer to $600.

You could take that extra $150 and put it towards a higher end CD2.
Trust me, the x1900xtx & x1950xtx can handle any game out there plus, any game that will be coming out until DX10, at highest resolutions and settings....

IMO

Yea, the X1950 would be the best choice if ur only gamin at 1280*1024 resolutions. I get 100fps average on max settings (1280*1024) with my OCed X1900XT (basically a XTX now) and a X2 3800+ (stock, only had it for 2 days so breakin it in before i break it ;)). If your gamin at anything higher than that then u would want a dual-GPU set-up or a 7950GX2.
