7900GT 256mb or 512mb?

well I guess when it comes to things like in HL@ when the water refelctions are going, and there is a fire blazing while oyu have little flying things chasing you and there is a helicopter and your in a huge firefight. then that is when 512mb will benefit a little bit.

But I looked at your specs, and your cpu isnt a socket 939 is it?? if it is, I would look into upgrading to a dual core if your mobo supports it. cuase your grahics card looksto be godd, I just think your cpu is holding you back right now.

If you into ocing i would get, all you would have to do is volt mod get a vf-900 and oc past 7900gtx. But thats the only reason i would get it.

Personally I would go grab a x1900xt because they are better. It is fact. If you really want a 7900xt get the ko edition. They are the best out there. Even though the 1900xt are the best bang for your buck.

I'm trying to keep the budget as tight as possible, so i was wondering weather saving the equivalent of US$55 and going for the 256mb version would be worth it?

I should point out that in the UK prices are different to the US and a 1900xt costs the equivalent of US$80 more than the 7900GT KO 512mb. otherwise i would be going for that.

the 256MB will do you just fine.. but I can make a couple of suggestions by looking at your system.

X-Fi... to me is overrated... my audigy 2 ZS sounds just as good with half the price.

the E6400 will save you a little and you can OD the difference. the L2 Cache is not that much performance wise from what I have read. (I do not have the chip)

the lian li case is nice, but you can fine cheaper... think about your air flow and what you want. Use Newegg for a reference. the advanced search is very nice is narrowing down what you want.

well my friend says his jump from audigy to x-fi was noticeable in games and music.... and going to 512mb would allow you to play on higher resolution.. so if your on 1280.. stick to 256 mb

Dude, your system is almost identical to mine. The only places we differ are the HDD, the optical drive, and the case. And yeah, 256MB is plenty. 512MB should't be a noticable improvement. The 256MB version is either on sale, or just cheap on Newegg.

Well, I have a 512mb 7900GT, but I've never had any experience with a 256mb version. I doubt it makes any difference.
