I have a few questions before I order my new system. (the dell has got to go!)

So far I've picked:

AMD 3800 X2

Asus M2N SLI deluxe - any better choices same price range or do you like the choice? cooler needed?

eVGA 7600GT

Seagate SATA 160

Memory corsair - which would be a good choice (prefer 1 stick 1 gig for now)

dvd burner

PSU need input ( I read someplace mb needs 600w not sure if this is correct or not)

Any other input would be great!

Greetings,

That shopping list looks nice.

PSU - Not a component that you want to cheap-out on. Enermax and Antec have both been good companies, though I think that Enermax may be a better choice.

That CPU will carry you for awhile. It has excellent overclocking capabilities, and option you might want to entertain next year as apps become more resource intensive.

RAM - Your memory will not work in dual channel with a single stick. I recommend 2 x 512MB or 2 x 1GB. If you plan on overclocking use Corsiar XMS or OCZ Platinum (PC4000 for both)

Video Card - Great performance for the price, but quickly becoming dated. If you have the money get a 7900GT, which is quickly going to become a mid-range card.

I hope that this helps. Enjoy your Rig!

no... that motherboard does not require 600w.... i don't know where you heard that from.. but for a psu i would get the antec truepower tpII.. 550 watts and i think 38 amps? around the aread of 38.. pretty sure that was it, 19 amps each rail..... if your going value ram, corsair is fine... if you want to overclock i'd suggest something from OCZ or G.Skill... if its s939 get ddr 500, if its am2 then 677 or whatever it was.. or even 800 if you wanna do some serious oc'ing

I do plan on ddr 800. Confused on the reply above. Do I have to buy 2 sticks? I know I need two for dual channel but won't one stick work by itself? Or are you saying two sticks of 512 are more efficient than one stick of 1g?

Ok, I answered my dumb question about the ram by rereading Static 11's post (sorry). Here's the revised list:

Blue Alien Head CaseArts Mid tower case (already bought)

LiteOn Dvd (already have)

AMD 3800 X2 AM2

Asus M2n SLI Deluxe (got the info about the 600w on one of the ratings from newegg, didn't seem right, that's why I asked)

Enermax liberty 500 PSU (seemed to have good ratings and looked good too)

Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 (seemed to be issues with OCZ and asus)

eVGA 7600GT

Seagate 160g Sata

I think if you look at the reviews on NewEgg.com for the Asus M2N SLI Deluxe you will see that people have had compatibility problems with it and certain types of RAM. Apparently it doesn't really like any OCZ RAM, so make sure you read up on it.
