Media Test Failure, Check Cable

Media Test Failure, Check Cable.....
this is what my laptop tells me when its posting, it still posts but then when im in windows the dvd-rom works when it wants too. Is there anyway of taking the drive out and check the cable or is the rom shot?

It is a Acer Aspire 3610..

update all the firmware and all the latest drivers also try flashing the bios.

eather way he should still do those things. not so much flash the bios but do the others.
