Hey guys, if i were to pick up a new hard drive, would there be a way to put all my information on the other hard drive with out losing it all and haveing to reinstall?

so to make the question easyer, this is what i want to do.

1) Install new HD
2)Transfer data from old hd to new hard drive
3) delete data from old drive
4) have all data on new hd, use old HD for media storage.

thanks.

Might not work because the boot sector data will not copy to the new HD.

Not even that, You can't simply copy the Entire OS (Yes and the MBR) To a new Harddrive.

Instead you take out your current Harddrive, Put the new one in, Boot off a OS Disc such as windows xp or whatever you want to install, you format it install the OS then you put the original HD in and copy the data over.

You would then Format the Old HD in Disk Managment. (Making sure you got all the data you wanted from it beforehand.)

I vaguely remember a utility in Norton Ghost which can copy the entire contents from one drive to another

Yea, but I was assuming he didn't want to spend any extra money to buy it, then again he could always coughcoughdowncoughloadcoughit.
