from reading the stickies I gathered GS is like a value brand of the GT.

could someone break these down farther.

I have no idea what they are. i'm about to purchase a mobo and vid card to go withmy amd 3500+ but need to find a good board and card for 300 or under.

any help would be great, thanks

GS Is a lower quality [more like, weaker performance] version of GT's ,sometimes the GS version is just the AGP version of a GT card though.

and XT Is an ATi cards, which is the 2'nd best version of cards, they have XTX's, XT's and GT and GTO's

yeah...you really do have to look at each card individually though. If you are into OCing some "weaker" cards have awesome potential.

Yeah the 6800xt is about what a 6800 vanilla was at but isnt unlockable. The GS is a very slightly weaker version of the GT but is unlockable for agp and highly overclockable. (Friend with a zalman took a 6800gs and it has 16 pipes at 400/1100) Seems all pci-e cards cant unlock. If your looking for a agp card there are still 6800gs on newegg by bfg. A couple of pci-e's are probably still around on newegg. Hard to get ahold of though except the XT's.
