Compared to what I have now its KING KONG. Please help . When I upgrade to the 700$conroe processor and 4 gigs of 800 ram and a better video card in 3 years it will truely be a beast.

I have removed the processor. How can I tell if its socket 775?

It says

"SL77R MALAY L345B182 M405C371 0875"

Yep I think you were right on the 478. ****ing dells. Cant even use the parts out of the pos. O well I guess il buy a pentium D. Or should I go AMD? I really want future conroe compatibility but its probably not necessary.

Il drop the ram to 1 gig and that should allmost cover a good processor.

I think this ones around 556. So abit cheaper..however I could never go conroe in the future.

in three years I highly doubt those parts you will upgrade will be beasty, you know how fast technology advances,

in my opinion, I would go with the amd, and if you plan on upgrding in three years you will probably throw out the old one and build a new one and call it a upgrade

Trust me ..it's a socket 478...I have a 5150
