Hello,

Make sure the drive's policy is set to optimize for quick removal.

First, plug in your external HDD.

  1. Double click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon in your taskbar tray...

    safelyremovehardwareicon.JPG

  2. Right click on the drive in question, and click properties
  3. Click on the Policies tab and, make sure that optimize for quick removal is checked.[/list=1]

i agree with alvin try that aswell. also try uninstalling it from device manager and letting windows rediscover it.

i tried that but there is no policy tab..?? am usin windows xp pro
I have also tried reinstallin and it doesnt work.
ANy more ideas.

ok i think iv solved it. what i have done is bought a USB card bus and used that to connect my harddrive and it works so therefore it must be my internal usb. Any ideas how to fix that??

if onboard usb fails there is nothing much you can do other than replace the board however if other USB components work on it and just the hard drive doesnt a driver or something got corrupt. as long as its working though i wouldnt worry about it.

ya

ya my smaller flash works and my usb mouse except my external harddrive. and i tried lookin for drives and couldnt find any. ???
