OK this has been eating at me for awhile, what's the difference between (1) 7950 GX2 vs. (2) 7900 GTX ?

From what I understand 7950 is two GPUs on one card, and 2x 7900 is 2 GPUs as well (albeit 7950 is both on same unit). Aren't they both SLi as well?

Yet, 7950 is only like 100 bucks more (than a single 7900 GTX), whereas if you want 2x 7900 GTX's you have to shell out ~1000 dollars.

I'm asking because this is my only stumble block left to decide in which GPU/Mobo combination to get for my C2D system. Basically, Asus PW5 is a Crossfire mobo and ASUS P5N32-SLI is (the only?) SLi Conroe mobo.

Seems to think X1800XTX whether Crossfired or single is behind SLi or single 7900GTX. So this will impact what Mobo I was planning on. Can someone please help clear this up for me? I'm a dumb noob, thanks.

Don't SLI two 7900GTXs, it's a waste of money. Just go for the 7950GX2. Or get a 7900GT which can hold you until the DX10 cards.

I wouldn't plan on SLI. If I were you I'd just get a card that's great but not too pricey and hold off until the G80 or R600.

Something like a x1800 or x1900xt or a 7900GT KO

my next build...probably like next august will def be conroe, (slowest bc its STILL overkill when OC'd...even for sli) and a G80 or R600 card, with potential for two... My new system is pretty sweet though. FEAR test, MAXXXXED minus SS and only 2x AA = 68 FPS!!!

i don't think SS even showed up when i turned it on...lol. It didn't look diff at all. Maybe needed a reboot. But the test is crap anyway. my fps hover around 50-60 not 68.
