How do I know if a Socket 775 mobo is compatible with Core 2 Duo?

well...product specs might say it.

Sometimes if not, the box might show it...but I only take this as a sign to do the last thing which is check the mobo maker website for info on it. More often than not it's a bios flash to make a sock 775 conroe good to go

You either need 965 or 975x. Any other chipsets are not compatible as standard and would have been advertised as Conroe compatible (e.g. there are some 945 chipset ones.)

CPU-Z will tell you what chipset you have.
