dvd/cd burner wont burn

I have a Tsstcorp ts-h552L dvd writer and when i try to burn a cd in itunes it will write about half of the first song and the my computer will completely lock up. (the mouse wont even move on screen) If i let it sit for about 2 min it will unlock and say its still burning, but the progress bar never moves again, and after 5 more min it says there was an error.

It will do the same thing in nero also, i tried to burn a movie and the same thing happend, total lockup, no progress, and then error.
Ive tried upgrading the firmware on the drive but i cant seem to get it to work, if anyone has this drive and has sucessfully updated it then i would like to know how. thanx

have you tried another brand of cds see if thats the problem? borrow one from a friend or something.

I have 2 brands of cds here Verbatim and imation. Both have the same result.

have you tried putting the drive in another system to see if it does the same?

hmmmm......no i dont really feel like taking it out, but i guess i will when i feel like it.
