AM2 vs 939

Which AMD chip should I be looking to buy? AM2 or 939.
I would like to know which chipset has the best chance of being used in the future.
Is the AM3 in the AM2 boards just rumor?

Go for AM2...939 is old now. And yes I believe AM3 will be compatible with the AM2 boards.

Socket 939 is going to be like the P4... it'l be around for years to come. It may be "old" but it's still a dam good system. and there is not much of a performance difference between the AM2 and 939. true AM2 is better and more up to date... Just my 2 cents.

But since they ARE the same price right now... go AM2.

Ok cool. So my second question would be as far as the AM2 line goes, which processor would be the best bang for the buck.
What can run all the games and multi-task like a prom date on speed, able to keep up until AM3 and isn't going to set me back 500 bucks?
