Upgrading For Dad

My dad has a crappy computer. It is a socket 478 and the RAM is ddr333. He wants me to make it faster so I am going to get him more ram and a new cpu. hw only has 512 now i think, so i am gonna get 2 gigs.

2 gigs would be a waste in that comp, go with 1 gig and use the money to get the fastest CPU the mobo can handle.

Video editing, and hardcore ripping takes alot of advantage of 2GB.

That processor will not work with his mobo. Even though it shows it as socket 478, it is a mobile chip. The mobile pin layout is different that the old desktop 478 sockets.

I would think twice about the whole upgrade. The price of that RAM is ridiculous. You can get 2gigs of DDR2 800 from that price.

I would recommend waiting until you can do a CPU/Mobo/RAM combo. That way you can get it up-to-date and not waste money on old tech.

Even with that budget you could go:

and to xtcy, also check for spyware/adware on your comp... but when you get the new parts you're gonna have to format/fresh install windows anyways so you won't have to worry about that...

Im not sure about this things but the motherboard info says it dosnt have an AGP slot. A gigantic flaw in gaming.... unless u dont play games.
