HD not displaying correct free space

i have a 60gb hard drive for my windows and games to run on, and a 120gb for backup abd downloads. The problem im having is i try to install a game that requires 4gb space...my drive shows 3.5gb free...so i UNINSTALLED grand theft auto freeing up 4.7GB...but windows is now only showing i have 4gb free?? I have run norton system and disk doctor and problem not fixed. what can i do.

This is a simple thing, but make sure you emptied your recycle bin.

ya..that was too simple. already did it..doesnt make a difference. the other day i uninstalled a game..it went thru the whole process and said finished....i check the directory..THE WHOLE THING was still there.

Download and run CCleaner

Go into safe mode and locate the folders for the programs you have deleted and manually remove them. I believe all that happened when they were uninstalled is execution path was delted and the files remained.

the folders are gone...but i still DO not have the free space i should. isnt there something that does a better scan of used space
