Problem with saving stuff

Was just wondering, when I go to save a file of any sort on the "File Name" line it always has the extension as well, I never used to have this till I formatted so I obviously did something but I don't know what.

Is there anybody who knows how to stop this from coming up all the time please?

in the Folder Options, you can set whether or not you want known file types to be displayed. also, some programs and file types just do that.
