Is it possible to take out the Hard Drive of a computer, put it inside another computer and get files from it?

This is the problem I have, I can't turn on my computer at the moment because the PSU died. And I need to save some stuff on CD. I was wondering, is it possible to take out its HD and put it in my brothers computer, and get the files that way? Even if the computers are totally different?

Yea, you would make it a slave HD and it would just show up in my computer.

Assuming your running XP and its an EIDE Drive.

EIDE? And also, is there any "danger" on doing this?

No danger, EIDE is the type of drive as in PATA, parralel advanced techology attachment. Basically it means its attached by a 40 Pin ribbion cable.

You have to put the jumper on slave when you connect that harddrive to another computer unless its on a separate EIDE Channel in which it would be master.

right just be sure his harddrive with the os on it is set to the Master and the other slave then you should be able to boot into windows and just access it as if it where another drive.
