Hard drive format failed...now explorer crash

Hi,
i have a Lacie "big disk" external hard drive..and i tried formatting it, using right click > format disk in windws explorer ( XP Pro )

The format got to 100% then said it failed, and now windows explorer crashes everytime i have the firewire external disk attached.

If anybody can tell me how to format the drive again properly, it would be much appreciated.

i would get your hands on a copy of partition magic and use that to format your drive.

Hello,

Try formatting the drive in safe mode (using firewire) and see if it crashes.

Also, have you tried formatting the drive with the drive connected to the PC using a USB cable instead?

If all fails, and you're comfortable doing so, I'd imagine you'd be able to open the external enclosure, remove the hard drive and slave it inside your PC. Not sure if your Lacie Big Disk permit this, though .
