9800 pro artifacting

I got a ati radeon 9800 pro 256mb with a broken fan that seems to have burned out and he was trying to run the card even without the fan and using a case fan to attempt to cool it. I put my vf900 on it and currently running it now. It artifacts at its stock speeds of 380/680 but will run at the bare minimum of 302/540. I dont know where it would run without artifacting between there but the core didnt get above 308. What could I do at this point. Should I look for where it exactly may have burnt out or let the thermal paste set while I stress it or something?

I would tell you but its irrelevant. Anyone got any usefull ideas if I can fix this at all. I figured he could buy a arctic cooling cooler for now just so it can run because he wants to atleast use his computer now (no onboard) till they get a new card (who knows how long).
