Basically, I'm thinking of building a PC (it will be my first time). This is the rig I've specced up:

CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Socket 775 2.4GHz

Memory - Corsair Memory TWIN2X2048-6400 2x1GB 240-Pin DIMM XMS2-6400 CL5

Mobo - Asus P5B (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-151-AS)

One final question, will it be cool enough using only the stock coolers? I am not planning to OC anything, or add fans to the case (which has two). Will this be sufficient, or will I need to change my plans?

Oh and is it worth changing the 7900GT for a X1900XT?

Thanks

I personally don't like stock cooling any way, but I have heard that the redesign of the newer coolers is decent, so I would say try it and see what you think. as for the GPU... it's up to you... personal preference and what you can afford. asking that question will get MANY responses and start that very aged flame war about which is better... :)

This is a general conparision of the cards if you want to look for yourself.. Nothing fancy...

You got a nice setup there tetlow....I don't think it hurts to invest in some aftermarket cooling.

I probably will invest in aftermarket coolers eventually, but the system is stretching my budget already, so I may purchase them at a later date. Would it be safe to run using just the coolers that come with the hardware and the fans in the case?

Thanks for the link nukem, the X1900XT seems to outperform the 7900GT, now I just have to decide if the difference is worth the cost...

Also, I have heard the X1900XT runs quite hot? Is this true?

I am not bad-mouthing XFX, but many others have....

Take a stroll through the forums and see what others have to say about the XFX 7900GT.

Shop around for a different vendor/manufacturer and see what types of feedback have been given. In addition, when you decide on a vendor/manufacturer check to see if they have multiple release versions of their 7900GT; and ensure that you get a "newer" release. Doing that may save a lot of heartache, anger and flying computers.

Yes, stock cooling is fine. Why would Intel give you a cooler that didn't work? I'm not sure how folks got the idea that stock cooling was trash, but overclocking is even possible with them to an extent.
