Using desktop monitor same time as Laptop

My friend's bro just got a new Alienware laptop and we are trying to get his desktop monitor to display the same thing the laptop monitor is displaying, so that we can spectate while someone plays a game or something.

We can only get one at a time to work though by using Fn+F4, but not both.

Any ideas why both won't display at the same time?

what video card do you have, you can dual output and sync the same screen, or you get a box that can do another output not directly form the video card.

I don't know, not my laptop.

We don't want to dual output though, just use the laptop screen and an extra monitor to display the same image. They do it on campus all the time.

It depends on what graphics it has, most likely either ATI or Nvidia...

There should be an option in the display settings which allows you to clone the primary display. Once the secondary monitor is connected to the laptop, look for a setting like this.
