dang........wasnt expectin all this, this is really helpful. to answer the generals question.....for one the $200 RANGE on each peice makes perfetc sense to say how much money im wiloin to spend on it. its NOT a budget system. and i had already decided i would spend round $300 on the gpu so thats not news to me. and when i say system and i ask about the cpu and mobo and NOT about monitors or speakers that i already have i would think u would autmotaically think about the actualy pc and not the other components. im notlimitng myslef to the $200 limit. it was just a ballpark estimate on how much ill spend on each. doesnt mean im never goin to spend over that. to answer another question, i cant really say how much ill spend i all because i dont have it all yet. i figure i have about half of what i need for the total price in the end. Im guessing ill spend a little over $800 in all, posibly $900, but hopefully that woudnt happen since im only 17 and dont have a steady income.so thats alot to me right now,but i will if it comes down to it. im building a whole new system so i wont have to worry about uprgarding anything else for a little while.to prevent any further confusion ill specify what im buiying new: gpu, cpu, mobo, psu, memory. i see no reason to buy another rom drive since i have two already that can do hatever i want. ill buy a new hard drive along down the line but its necessary right now for my comp to work.now that does not include monitors or keyboards or cases or anything else. hope everyhting has been cleared up and no more confusions are goin to tajke place. thanks alot dipique by the way!

follow dipique's list of parts to get an idea, but i would rather you got the X2 3800+ to save alittle over $120. Personally, if I was spending $240 on a AMD CPU, I would go Conroe e6300 instead.

Also, the 7800gtx cards are way way over priced for performance increase. It would be better to get a 7900gt KO or a x1900xt which are the best cards out right now for a cheaper price.

Spending $200 on each part is dumb. Most of the parts are going to be under that to begin with except maybe cpu and gpu.

if the poster's original question hasn't been answered, here it is...maybe

Memory...you match up the memory you're going to buy with the mobo you are targeting.

So you pick a CPU, pick the best mobo for you, then whatever RAM it supports you pick that. It's all clearly labeled...your only problem is getting confused by others convincing you their way is your way.

IF you'll be overclocking yourself, that's where you may want to focus on ram stepping/timing, otherwise you won't need to.

I'm sure the $200 was an avg, if A is $200, B is $50, then C can be $350...ad nauseam Active budgetting and allocation
