HDD External drive

Hiya, bought a HDD 80G external hard drive, bout a month ago! used it and then put back into packaging! wanted to use it again! so plugged it all back in but when i copy a picture onto it, it only shows half of it! what does this mean!???? imm soo sad coz i am selling it to on ebay and i want to know why it is not working now!
please help!

try a low level format on it or just a normal format and if it still does it then look for a new case and possibly a new drive.
