Formatted Now Computer runs slowly

Computer was running a tad sluggishly so i decided to do my annual format. Windows loads up nice and fast but even as a i type now the letters lag. Cursor likes to freeze and then finally move a few seconds later and copying a dvd takes 2 and a half hours, as opposed to previously, 40 mins or so.

Running Windows XP all updated, service pack 2
Athlon xp2700
1 Gig Ram
Radeon 9600pro

Could be a driver problem perhaps...motherboard? No other problems but sluggisness. System is virus and spyware free and low on installed items. Appreciate this is vague but any suggestions welcomed.

Any errors in the event logs?

Is the CPU usage spiking on a process?

Do you have any error icons in your device manager?

Hello,

After you re-installed XP, did you install your chipset drivers and graphics drivers?

check your cpu usage also make sure you have the latest chipset and all drivers are installed.

to me it seems program issues. so when you install programs do you restart your computer often?
