my uncle's computer was slowing down, so i offered to upgrade it for him, the bad thing was it also included a copy of XP (he had 98), but he didn't tell me that there was important files (resumes and stuff for work) that he needed, and now they're gone.

is there anyway to recover these? or is there nothin i can do?

One good thing is that he can redo them but it still sucks

yeah, i know but i never thought of the question and he never said anything so i assumed it was ok, but it's already happened so you i can't really do anything about it

He probably didn't know any better seeing as he needed you to complete the upgrades for him. And in that case the responsibility falls on you since you're the more experienced person.

Hello,

 well mistakes happen and it's a way of making us learn.

If you're uncle is desperate to get his data back, he could send it to a data recovery specialist to try and salvage information.

Plus, it's a lesson to your Uncle too - that he should backup important data.

a good tech should never assume there is nothing valuable on the drive and just start formatting you always need to ask first and explain what you are doing people like to be informed. I would try Recover My Files if i where you. but i hope you learned your lesson.
